I'm trying to decide whether it's worth it to upgrade my RAM from 64GB DDR4 to 32GB DDR5 for my video production work. I primarily use DaVinci Resolve and Adobe suite, and I don't game at all. I've been holding off on this upgrade for too long, and with RAM prices likely going up until 2028, I feel like it's time to make a move. My current setup includes a Ryzen 9 3900x with 64GB of DDR4 running at 3600MHz. I'm considering getting 32GB of DDR5 at 6000MHz, but I'm worried that dropping to 32GB might hurt my productivity. What do you think?

I mean, have you thought about upgrading to a Ryzen 5900XT or maybe a 5950X? They're solid choices. The boost from a 12-core Zen2 to a 16-core Zen3 could be really advantageous for your workflow, especially since Adobe apps generally benefit more from having more RAM capacity rather than just faster RAM. Plus, the 5900XT and 5950X will give you more threads than the Intel 285K, since Intel has cut out multi-threading with the Arrow Lake series.
I think having more RAM is generally more important than having faster RAM, so I would stick with the 64GB DDR4 instead of dropping down to 32GB of DDR5. Just curious, what GPU are you currently using?
I have a 5070ti, so it should handle things pretty well alongside the RAM.
It really depends on the types of projects you're working on. If you're actively using the full 64GB for your production needs, switching to 32GB might not be the best move, especially with the price fluctuations in RAM right now. You might be stuck paying a bit extra just to upgrade. Have you considered other options within the AM4 platform? That could be worth checking out!
By the way, is it viable to run 4x16GB sticks of DDR5 on Intel? I'm hearing mixed opinions about stability versus speed. Anyone have solid info?

Exactly! I'd say test out the 16-core option if you're looking for a decent performance boost without compromising your RAM capacity.
