Hey everyone! I'm putting together my first gaming PC and I'd really appreciate some feedback on my parts list. I'm aiming for 4K gaming, particularly on AAA titles, and I also want to play competitive shooters like Battlefield 6 and Black Ops 7 at lower settings for better frame rates. I'm looking at getting a 4K 240Hz OLED monitor, possibly the XG27UCDMG or a 32" version, although I'm concerned about the latter being too large for competitive games.
Here's my current list of components:
- AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D CPU
- Corsair NAUTILUS 360 RS ARGB CPU Cooler
- Gigabyte B850 AORUS ELITE Motherboard
- Crucial Pro Overclocking 32GB RAM
- Samsung 990 EVO Plus 1TB SSD
- Gigabyte WINDFORCE OC SFF GeForce RTX 5080 GPU
- Lian Li Vector V100R Case
- MSI MAG A850GL Power Supply
- Corsair Case Fans
I have a couple of questions:
1. Do you think I need to buy extra fans since the Vector 100 case probably doesn't include them? I know the CPU cooler has 3 already.
2. I'm leaning towards Corsair Vengeance RAM, but the Crucial seems to be the best bet for price and performance. Will it bottleneck my system?
3. I have a WD Black NVMe drive from my PS5 that I could use to save on storage costs. Should I stick with PCIe 5.0 for my main drive and go cheaper for the others?

If you’re looking to save some cash on cooling, a 240mm liquid cooler might do the trick without sacrificing too much performance.
Overall, you've done a nice job! Just watch out for those extra costs and consider getting more storage if possible. You definitely seem to have a good grasp on what you want to achieve with this setup.
Your build looks solid! I suggest upgrading the SSD to a 2TB model though; 1TB can fill up pretty fast with modern games. Just keep in mind the prices right now.
You actually don't need to worry too much about RAM speed for 4K gaming; your 9800X3D should perform well even with CL36. And about the SSD, a Gen 5.0 drive isn't really necessary for gaming over a Gen 4.0 drive. I'll suggest aiming for a solid power supply though; you could find a cheaper and reliable option if you shop around.
Great advice! I was unsure about those SSD choices. Based on your recommendation, I’ll look more into those options.
There's a lot of brand name markup happening here. Also, the case actually includes four fans, so extra fans might be overkill. You could swap out for a cheaper SSD that still performs well, and save some cash that way!

Thanks! I'm definitely considering it, but I'm trying to keep costs down. Do you think using the SSD from my PS5 as a secondary option would be a good move?
