I'm just diving into setting up my own Minecraft server using Ubuntu Server alongside Casa OS, but I'm really anxious about security. As a newbie, I've got concerns about potential hackers getting into my setup and possibly accessing other devices on my network through my router. Could anyone provide some solid tips on keeping my server secure? Also, I'd love any additional advice on using Linux, since I'm just starting to learn! Here are my PC specs if that helps:
- Intel i5 10400F
- RTX 4070S Founders Edition
- Corsair Vengeance Pro 2x8GB 3200MHz
- Gigabyte B560 HD3

Make sure only the necessary ports are open—typically, that's port 25565 for Minecraft. If you're using it just for friends, that's generally fine. But for added security, consider using a tool like Tailscale, which sets up peer-to-peer connections without exposing ports publicly. It's a safer way to manage access without risking your home IP.
Isolate your Minecraft server on your network. This way, if something goes wrong, it won't spread to your other devices. Alternatively, if security is a big concern for you, you might consider running the server on a cloud service like AWS instead, so you don’t have to worry about your local network at all.
Don’t forget to set up a firewall! Ubuntu Server usually comes with 'ufw' (Uncomplicated Firewall) preinstalled. Just make sure it’s allowing traffic for whatever services you need—like your Minecraft server. Keeping it turned on is really important for security.
