Best Free Headless CMS Options for a Small Music Booking Website

I'm looking to create a small website for a musician booking agency using Vue.js, and I need recommendations for a free headless CMS. The site will consist of about 2 or 3 static pages, plus dynamic pages for 12 artists, each with their own texts and some images. The agency owner wants the ability to update these images and texts easily on their own. I've heard of options like Strapi and Contentful that have free tiers, but I'm wondering which headless CMS would be the best fit for my situation.

I’d suggest trying out Sanity.io. It offers a great editing experience that's user-friendly for non-tech folks, like your agency owner. Plus, it integrates well with Vue.js and has features like real-time previews and flexible content structures, which would be beneficial for managing artist information.

For a small project like this, I’d recommend keeping it simple and low-maintenance. If the owner mainly needs to update text and images, a Git-based CMS with a straightforward backend could work really well once it’s set up. Strapi is solid for the free tier, but remember that hosting and keeping it updated could be too much work for just 12 artists. Contentful has a nice interface, but their free limits can catch you off guard pretty quickly. Think about how often you’ll need updates and who will handle that in the long run. For this type of site, stability often wins!

Thanks for your feedback! Can you explain the git based cms approach? Never heard of that before. Thank you 🙂

You could check out Decap CMS, Strapi, Payload, or Tina – they all look like good options for your needs.

For managing content for 12 artists, Strapi or Directus would be great choices. Both have generous free tiers and work seamlessly with Vue. I find Strapi has better documentation, which could help a lot. If you need something ultra-simple, consider using the Contentful free tier or even flat markdown files with Nuxt Content if the owner is comfortable editing markdown files.
