Why is there a black mark on my ceiling from my D-Link router?

I've noticed a black round mark on my ceiling, and I've already called an electrician who said it probably isn't a wiring issue. Does anyone have any idea why this might have happened and what I should do about it?

Also, does anyone in your house smoke, or is the kitchen nearby? Sometimes the heat from the router can push dust up to the ceiling.

I've heard a lot of complaints about D-Link routers over the years; they can sometimes cause issues on the network. It's best to consider other options for your next router if this continues to be a problem.

That's really strange! I think sticking with your plan to have the electrician check it out is wise. Better safe than sorry, especially if there's a risk of a fire starting there.

It might be due to heat from the router or another device, combined with dust in the air settling on the ceiling. If the router has been running for a while, that could definitely leave a mark after some time! How long have you had it?

We've had it for about a year, and it was fine until now.

Yeah, it doesn’t feel like just dust to me. It looks more like something burnt.

It's also possible that someone accidentally traced it with a marker, but it’s hard to say without a picture. Maybe share one?

Here's a photo of it. What do you think?
