I've recently encountered an issue where my monitors go dark while I'm gaming. Initially, the audio and Discord worked fine, but now it seems to freeze completely after the screens go black. The only way to get the display back is by restarting my PC. Given that I've had this setup for a few years, I'm considering if it's time to upgrade. I've already checked the cables and drivers, tried using the motherboard for display, and I'm currently running a scan with Bitdefender, but nothing has fixed the problem. I'm starting to suspect my GPU. I'm looking for advice on potential fixes and upgrade options for my GPU and my entire build. Here are my specs:
- AMD Ryzen 5 3600 6-Core Processor
- Asus TUF GAMING B550M-PLUS Micro ATX Motherboard
- G.Skill Trident Z RGB 16 GB DDR4-3600 Memory
- Samsung 860 QVO 1 TB SSD
- MSI VENTUS GP GeForce RTX 2070 Video Card
- darkFlash DLM 21 MicroATX Mid Tower Case
- Cooler Master MWE Gold 650W PSU
I also have some additional fans and RAM sticks from Ballistix that I can't locate. Any guidance would be appreciated!

First off, have you checked the temperatures of your components? Overheating can cause your GPU to fail, leading to display issues. If you haven't already, consider reapplying thermal paste to your CPU and GPU, as that can make a big difference in performance. Also, you might want to monitor your GPU temperature while gaming to see if it spikes before failure.

I haven’t checked the GPU temp yet. I’ve only looked at the motherboard temp in BIOS. How can I check the GPU temp while gaming?
