Which CPU Should I Choose for My First Budget PC: i5 12400F or Ryzen 5 5600?

I'm building my first budget PC and need some advice on choosing between the Intel i5 12400F and the Ryzen 5 5600. Here's what I have so far: a Palit RTX 5060 GPU, 32GB of DDR4 RAM, a 1TB M.2 SSD, and a Cougar Atlas 650 PSU. I'm concerned about the Ryzen's pins being prone to bending, but I've noticed that AM4 motherboards are generally $10 cheaper. Any suggestions would be really helpful!

For me, the upgrade potential of the i5 12400F just gives it the edge.

I think the 12400F is probably the better choice now, but if you decide to go with the 5600, remember that you might snag a second-hand 5700X3D for a decent price in the future, which can actually compete with higher-end models like the 14900K right now. Just some food for thought!

Finding those 5700X3Ds is tough, though, and I wouldn't recommend investing in AM4 right now.

I'm also planning to shift to AM5 in a couple of years, so I'm not looking to commit to AM4 or LGA1700.

Performance-wise, both CPUs are quite similar, but if you're eyeing future upgrades, Intel might be cheaper. Going for a 12700K later will likely save you some money compared to the expensive X3D chips on the AM4 platform.

True, the i5-14600K is cheaper and faster compared to the i7-12700K, which is solid for budget builds.

I'd lean towards the i5 12400F. Although the pins can be a bit delicate, the Intel chip generally offers better upgrade options down the line with support for newer generations. Plus, it has a more recent architecture, which can be a big plus for future-proofing.
