How Can I Switch from Windows 10 to Linux While Keeping My Files and Familiar Look?

I'm looking to transition from Windows 10 to Linux, but I want my new setup to resemble Windows 10 as closely as possible. Are there specific themes or distributions I can install to achieve this look? Also, I'm concerned about losing my files during the switch. Is there a way for me to keep most or some of them? The fear of losing my data is the main reason I haven't made the switch yet.

Definitely back up all your files! You could transfer them to an external drive or cloud storage. Games on Steam don't usually need a backup; just move them to another drive, and they'll be fine once you reinstall Steam on Linux. As for software, keep in mind that some applications, especially Adobe products, won't work on Linux. For gaming, check out ProtonDB to see which games are compatible.

I don't have a large enough drive for backup right now—I'm still on an HDD. What would you recommend?

Zorin OS is a great option for people switching from Windows. It's specifically designed for users like you, aiming to provide a familiar layout. If you're looking for alternatives, Mint with the Cinnamon desktop or Fedora with KDE also have a similar feel to Windows. Just remember, while they might look alike, Linux operates differently from Windows. Don't forget to back up your important files before making the switch—better safe than sorry!
