Thoughts on my AM4 Gaming Upgrade Plan?

Hey everyone! I'm gearing up for a gaming PC upgrade and I'm looking to stick with my current motherboard unless there's a really compelling reason to switch. My aim is to achieve the best gaming performance with a solid price-to-performance ratio that'll last a few years.

I currently have an MSI X470 Gaming Plus MAX motherboard, which supports AM4 socket and Ryzen CPUs from 1000 up to 5000 series. My existing setup includes a Ryzen 7 2700X CPU, an RTX 2060 GPU, 16 GB of DDR4 RAM at 2133 MHz, and I'm gaming at 1080p with a 144 Hz monitor.

I've got a budget of around 1200 €. I'm thinking of upgrading to a Ryzen 7 5700X3D (or the 5700X if the price isn't right) and an RTX 4070 SUPER 12 GB, though I'm also considering an RX 7800 XT 16 GB if it's cheaper. Additionally, I want to bump my RAM up to 32 GB (2x16) at 3600 MHz CL16 and add a 1 TB NVMe SSD.

So, my goals are to stick with AM4, avoid the need for a new motherboard and DDR5, and prioritize the CPU and GPU for gaming. Does this upgrade plan look balanced to you? Any suggestions while keeping my X470 motherboard and budget in mind? Thanks!

Just a heads up regarding RAM. It's tricky to find cheap used kits in some areas, so consider going for 4x8GB instead of 2x16GB, possibly at 3200 or 3600 MHz, to save some cash. And for your SSD, any PCIe 3.0 will work fine if you’re not pushing for 4.0. The market's pretty reasonable, so check out a few options on eBay!

Your upgrade strategy is looking good! If the 5700X3D is too pricey, you might think about the Ryzen 5 5600 or even sticking with the 5700X. For your GPU, I’d lean more towards the RX 9070 XT, which is overall a better value for longevity than the 4070 SUPER, especially since you plan to stick with AM4 for a while. Consider getting a 750W PSU too!“

I really appreciate your advice! I think I’ll pivot towards the RX 9070 based on what you’ve said. Thanks for clarifying!

Sounds like a solid plan! However, I'd suggest looking at newer GPUs like the RTX 5070 or RX 9070. They might fit your budget and bring more future-proofing, especially if you decide to upgrade your monitor to 1440p later on. Also, don't forget about your power supply; you should aim for at least a 750-850W Gold PSU for all these components.

Thanks for the input! I was a bit hesitant about the pricing, but I'll definitely consider those newer cards.
