Hey everyone! With rising RAM prices lately, I've been a bit paranoid about my DDR5 RAM potentially failing. Thankfully, I know about the warranty, but it doesn't really cover age-related wear and tear, which is a bit vague. So I'm trying to take care of my setup as best as I can. Here are my specs:
- Motherboard: B650 AORUS ELITE AX rev1.2
- Processor: AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D (4.20 GHz, 8-Core)
- RAM: Corsair 32GB (2 x 16GB) Vengeance, DDR5 6400MHz, CL32, 1.4V
- Graphics Card: AMD Radeon RX 9070 XT (16 GB)
I've been using the XMP profile since building my PC almost 2 years ago, as most guides recommend it for optimal performance. However, I've just realized that XMP is actually an overclocking feature, and I'm concerned that it might be damaging my RAM. I discovered that my CPU doesn't fully support the XMP speeds with my RAM sticks, and while many suggest that 6000MHz is the sweet spot, I found adjusting settings to be quite complex. For now, I've disabled XMP and my RAM is running at 4800MHz with 1.0V.
So, to prolong my RAM's lifespan, do you think using XMP is safe, or should I stick with it turned off? I just can't afford to replace it right now, especially if prices stay high.

You're totally fine with XMP! A lot of people have been using it for years without issues. Sure, stuff does fail, but I wouldn’t be too worried about XMP damaging your RAM. Just keep an eye on your temperatures and you're good!
