Is My 32GB RAM PC Future-Proof for Gaming?

Hey everyone! I built my PC right before DDR5 prices skyrocketed due to the AI boom, opting for 32GB of RAM instead of going for 64GB. Now, with games often becoming more demanding and some developers not optimizing well, I'm curious about how long my current setup will really hold up. Here are my specs:
- PSU: Be Quiet! Pure Power 12M 850W
- Motherboard: MSI MAG B650 Tomahawk WiFi
- CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D
- Cooler: Be Quiet! Pure Loop 2 FX 240mm
- RAM: 32GB DDR5 (2x16GB) G.Skill Trident Z5 Neo @ 6000MHz
- GPU: Gigabyte Radeon Gaming OC 9070 XT 16GB
- Storage: 3TB NVMe SSD (1TB Samsung 980 Pro & 2TB Samsung 990 Pro)
For fellow gamers with similar builds, how long do you think 32GB will remain sufficient before I'll need to upgrade to 64GB, especially for modern AAA games and future titles?

You might see more demand for extra RAM in niche situations—maybe for heavily modded games or if you’re into streaming. The way I see it, stick with your current build for now unless something significantly changes. RAM prices fluctuate, so you might save a lot waiting it out!

Good point! No need to rush into spending a fortune when you might not even need to.

Exactly! And unless you’re running out of RAM, it’s really all about managing what you're using it for.

In terms of future demands, I’d say 32GB will be perfectly adequate for gaming for another couple of years. It’s likely that in 3-4 years we might start to see more games requiring 40GB or more, especially for high-end applications. But for now, you're in a good place! No need to make any drastic moves yet.

I doubt you’ll face any issues for the next few years. Games typically run well on 32GB, even AAA titles.

Agreed! Just optimize your setup and you’ll be good for the foreseeable future.

Honestly, I wouldn't stress too much about the RAM right now. 32GB is still more than enough for most recent AAA titles. Even heavily modded games rarely need more than 20-25GB. You might hit limits if you're multitasking a lot—like gaming while streaming—so just keep an eye on it. If you're not facing any issues now, you're good for a while!

Yeah, exactly! My rig has 32GB and runs games smoothly, even with a ton of background apps. As long as you're not hitting any performance walls, there's no need to panic.

Right? I think you’ll be fine for the next few years unless you dive into some really resource-heavy stuff.

Future-proofing is kind of a marketing ploy. But with the specs you have, 32GB should keep you comfortable for a couple of years still. The next wave of big titles might push past that, but it won't be for a while yet, maybe 2026 to 2027 before you start seeing widespread need for 64GB for gaming. Stick with what you’ve got and wait for prices to come down if you decide to upgrade later!

I agree! Plus, if the trend continues, you may even find DDR6 or 7 by the time you consider upgrading.

Totally. Many times developers aren't gearing their games to only work on the highest setups. Most players still run decent hardware.
