Should I Upgrade My CPU or RAM After Getting a 5070 Ti?

I recently upgraded to a 5070 Ti, swapping it out for my old 3060 along with the following components: a 12400F CPU and 32 GB of DDR4 RAM. However, I'm noticing that my 12400F CPU seems to be bottlenecking the 5070 Ti when gaming at 1080p and 1440p. I also came across benchmarks suggesting that upgrading from DDR4 to DDR5 could boost performance by about 30%. Given this, should I prioritize upgrading my CPU first? Is it necessary for me to switch to a new platform? Thanks for any advice!

Given the current RAM pricing issues, I would recommend sticking with your AM4 platform for now. If you’re looking for a budget-friendly upgrade, a CPU like the 14600K(F) would be a direct drop-in replacement and pairs well with the 5070 Ti. Just keep in mind that while upgrading RAM might help performance, it won’t give you the best value right now.

Thanks for the insights! I didn't realize the RAM upgrade wasn't really worth it right now.

Bottlenecking isn’t always a bad thing. It just indicates that one component is much stronger than the other. The 12400F is a decent mid-range CPU, but the 5070 Ti is significantly more powerful than your previous 3060. If optimizing gaming performance is your top priority, upgrading the CPU first makes more sense. Going for a 13th Gen CPU, like the i5-13600K or i7-13700K, could give you a big performance boost without the higher costs of switching to DDR5.
