Help! My Windows 11 PC is Stuck in Recovery Mode—Need Advice to Save My Files

I've been having a lot of crashes with my PC lately. I ran a MemTest, which showed no errors after three runs, and checked the Windows installation for issues but found nothing. I also did a disk check, which took about 20 hours to complete but seemed to get stuck between items around 900k to 1.1m. After it finished, I restarted my PC, but it got stuck on the boot screen. Following some advice from a Discord channel, I forced a shutdown, but that didn't help. I entered recovery mode and discovered there was a problem with a system file located at Windowssystem32configsystem, giving me the error code 0xc0000185. When I try to fix the installation using a USB drive, it just reboots again. The issue is that I have important files on this drive that aren't backed up and I can't just re-download them. I'm really lost and would appreciate any suggestions! Here are my specs: OS: Windows 11 Pro 25H2 Build 26200.7462, MoBo: ASRock B650 LiveMixer, CPU: Ryzen 7 7800X3D, GPU: ASRock Challenger OC RX 7700XT 12 GB, RAM: 2x16 GB DDR5-6000, Storage: 2 TB Level JS600 SSD and 2 TB WD Black SN770 M.2.

Consider creating a partition on one of your existing drives to transfer your data. You can use any Linux live USB to access your files and transfer them there. Just remember to set up your partitions correctly when reinstalling Windows so that you don't mess with your data.

I’d love to do that, but my C and D drives are the only decent-sized ones I have, and I don't have any additional drives for transferring data.

If you can borrow a working computer, you might want to download a recovery ISO and create a bootable USB using a tool like Rufus. Once you've got that, boot your faulty system from the USB. This should give you access to your files, allowing you to copy them to an external hard drive or even save them to the cloud using the built-in browser.

That’s a good idea! But I'm a bit worried since I have around 1TB of data. The biggest external drive I have available is a 256GB Sandisk, which won't cut it.
