Is it normal for a new CPU to be 20 months old?

I just bought an Intel 14600k CPU from a major retail store a few days ago, but I noticed that it has a batch number of L417F130, which indicates it was manufactured in April 2024, making it over a year and a half old. Should I be concerned about this? The CPU is installed and seems to be working fine, but I want to know if this is unusual.

It's not uncommon for electronics to sit on shelves for some time. They're not going to spoil like food. Just make sure to update your BIOS if you haven’t already, and you'll be just fine!

Thanks for the tip! I’ll get that BIOS update done.

Honestly, as long as you received a brand new product and paid the right price, it doesn't really matter how long it’s been sitting on a shelf. Intel has had fluctuating sales outside of large businesses, so some stock is bound to sit for a while. Just enjoy your CPU!

It's actually pretty normal. The 14600ks are from the last generation of Intel chips and they haven't been in production recently. It just means the store hasn't sold out of the older stock yet. As long as it's functioning properly and you bought it from a reputable seller, you’re covered by warranty. You're all good!
