I'm looking to upgrade from my 8-year-old computer, which definitely isn't cutting it anymore. I got some Christmas money and want to put together a budget AM4 build. Here's what I've come up with so far:
- **CPU**: AMD Ryzen 5 5600x
- **Motherboard**: ASUS Prime A520M-A
- **GPU**: MSI Gaming Trio Radeon RX 6800 (I already bought this secondhand)
- **PSU**: Gigabyte P650G 650W (gold 80+)
- **Storage**: 1TB Samsung SSD 860 EVO (salvaged from my old PC)
- **RAM**: 12 GB DDR4 (also from my old PC)
The total cost for these new parts, including the GPU, is about £500 (~$675). I'm concerned about potential CPU bottlenecking, but I don't play too many demanding games right now. To give you an idea of my current setup, I get around 20-30 FPS in Overwatch 2 and 13.7 FPS in Borderlands 3 on the lowest graphics settings. Destiny 2 is pretty much unplayable. Basically, I'm just looking for decent performance on most games. Any thoughts or suggestions? Thanks!

You might want to check the speed of your old RAM. If it's slow, like 2133 MHz, it could hold back your Ryzen 5600. Make sure to upgrade if that's the case!
As for the RAM, if it's 12 GB with one 8 GB stick and one 4 GB stick, it might still work, but having two identical sticks would give you better performance. RAM prices have gone up, but it might be worth it in the long run if you can find a good deal!
Yeah, I’ve heard that too. I'll keep an eye out for prices!
I’d suggest looking into a Ryzen 7 5700X and a B550 motherboard instead. The A520 is pretty basic and might limit your build down the line. Also, consider your power supply; check out some alternatives that are C tier or above for a better deal.
Have you checked out this PC part list? You could potentially save some bucks while getting solid components. Just swapping parts can make a big difference!

It's actually 1066 MHz, according to Task Manager! That can't be good.
