I'm setting up my new PC, and during the Windows installation, it prompts me to enter my Microsoft account. I used my Gmail address, but then I end up on a screen asking for a passkey. The only choices I get are to use an iPhone, Android device, or a USB security key. When I try to scan the QR code with my phone, it shows a message that it can't connect. I don't even know what a USB security key is, and I don't own one. I've been stuck on this screen for around 45 minutes now! Is there a way to skip this step, use a regular password instead, or create a local account? I'd really appreciate any help here!

I get what you're saying, but if this is a new setup, it's worth trying to navigate that screen carefully. Make sure you check the 'Sign-in options' because that’s how you can switch to a password. If you’re really having issues with the passkey, just consider disconnecting from the internet, as that might help too.
You can usually bypass the passkey option by selecting 'Sign-in options' and then choosing 'Use password instead.' If that doesn’t show up, you might want to disconnect from Wi-Fi before you reach the account setup part. This way, Windows should give you the option to set up a local account. After you finish the setup, you can reconnect and add your Microsoft account whenever you're ready!
But isn't that making it harder to set up if you have to disconnect? I thought Windows 11 doesn't allow local accounts during the initial setup?

I think that’s correct! It's like they want everyone to use the online options more than anything else.
