I've had my Apple ID for over ten years, but I only used it for about a year. Unfortunately, the email associated with that account is now deactivated, and I can't remember the password. Even worse, I forgot my security questions—used to have a screenshot with the answers, but it's gone now. I might still have an old iPhone (probably a 3S or 4S) that's logged into that account, but I'm not sure if it supports two-factor authentication. If I'm able to access that account on my device, is there any way I can add a new email without needing to log in? I'm mainly interested in deleting the account rather than recovering it, but I have heard Apple might not deactivate inactive accounts like some other services do. I'm worried about my photos and messages lingering around out there.

It's a tricky situation for sure! You might just have to try accessing the old iPhone and see if it lets you restore anything. Unfortunately, there's no guaranteed method to get around the locked account issue. Work through each option you remember and see where it leads you!

I tried that too, and I got stuck at the security questions as well. It seems like the only way forward would be if you could reset the security questions with some other method, like adding a phone number or something.
