Hello everyone! We've just received another price hike from Proofpoint for our email gateway service, and it's got us thinking about a potential switch. To be honest, we've had mixed experiences with their spam detection—it works, but not always as expected—and managing their many older consoles can be a bit of a hassle. Unfortunately, we can't use an API-based solution since we still operate our Exchange Server on-premises. We're looking at alternatives like NoSpamProxy, which is really tailored for the German market, but we're worried about how well it really detects spam and malware. Then there's Hornetsecurity's Mail Gateway, which was recently acquired by Proofpoint; this makes us a bit hesitant as it might lead back to the same pricing issues. I'd love to hear what solutions you're finding effective or what you currently use. Thanks for any feedback!

We switched from Barracuda to Libraesva and it’s been great. Libraesva is much better in terms of UI and effectiveness compared to Barracuda, especially if you’re also dealing with on-prem Exchange.
I think Libraesva is worth looking into!
I’ve been managing Proofpoint for ages and recently renewed for another three years. I wouldn’t switch. It’s not perfect, but it’s fantastic at fighting email threats. Plus, 90% of the Fortune 100 companies use it—there's a reason for that! Sure, the admin console is outdated, but I've gotten used to it and appreciate what it does.
Thanks for your insight! Responses like yours really help me weigh the options here.
I just made the switch from Mimecast to Proofpoint this summer, and it’s been a huge upgrade for us.
Totally agree. Proofpoint is in a league of its own when it comes to email security.
Have you considered Mimecast? It's pretty straightforward to configure and might suit your needs.
I had a great experience with Mimecast—lots of good features and easy for end users to navigate.
I found Mimecast wasn't great at classifying emails, though.
We had to move away from Proofpoint because they were blocking some emails without showing them in the dashboard. We switched to Mesh, which is a bit cheaper, and found it worked better for us overall. Just a heads-up, though, Mesh was acquired by Bitdefender, so check if that impacts your decision.
That's interesting to hear. Has anything changed with Mesh since the acquisition?
I faced similar issues with Proofpoint. Sometimes it’s the sender IP being blocked by their Dynamic Reputation system. We eventually turned that feature off, and while the spam filtering still works well, it was quite the hassle to get it done.

I’d be curious how the transition went for you!
