I'm trying to figure out some performance issues I'm having while playing FFVII Remake Intergrade. Here's my setup: I'm using a Ryzen 7700X CPU and a RX 9070 XT GPU with 16GB of GDDR6. I've got 32GB of DDR5 RAM, and my games run off an M.2 SSD. Everything is stock, no overclocking or undervolting.
When I'm playing, my GPU usage sits around 80-90%, but my CPU never really goes above 20%. The FPS is generally stable at around 120, which is great, but I notice some stuttering when there are a lot of NPCs on screen. Temperatures are normal, so no throttling is happening.
I'm wondering if this is something I can fix with in-game settings. The game is nearly maxed out graphics-wise, but since I'm not too picky about advanced game physics, I'm open to lowering settings to get smoother gameplay. Any recommendations on what I can adjust or tweak to help with this? Thanks!

Absolutely! It’s common for CPUs to be under 100% yet still hold back performance because most games rely heavily on single-threaded performance. You'll often find they demand more from the CPU when there are tons of NPCs, like in FFVII, compared to other games you mentioned—like GTA V—which might not stress the CPU as much due to less detailed NPC behavior.
It sounds like you might be experiencing a RAM bottleneck. Given that your CPU isn’t hitting 100% usage, it can still be the limiting factor in games that require a lot of single-core performance, especially with many NPCs around. It's worth checking if your RAM is indeed running properly.
Good point! I just changed my GPU last week and had a RAM light on the motherboard initially. After reseating, that went away, but I haven’t looked deeper since then.
Have you tried turning on EXPO for your RAM? Also, double-check that your RAM is running at its advertised speeds in Task Manager. Sometimes, issues like these can come from the RAM not being optimized correctly.
Yeah, I did that when I built the PC and went through BIOS settings. I’ll recheck it later to be sure.

Exactly! That’s why I’m reaching out for suggestions. Other games like RDR2 and Fallout run fine; it’s mainly just FFVII that’s giving me trouble with all the NPCs.
