I've got a pretty decent AM4 build with a Ryzen 7 5700X3D and I was originally running an RTX 4070 Super. While I was out in Akihabara, I stumbled upon an RTX 5080 priced at MSRP and decided to go for it given the rising costs of GDDR7 and other components expected in 2026. Now, I'm wondering about my decision:
1. At 4K gaming, is my Ryzen 7 5700X3D going to hold back the performance of the RTX 5080?
2. At 1440p gaming, should I expect a significant bottleneck compared to if I had a 9800X3D?
3. Considering that PC parts in Japan are often overpriced, is it reasonable to stick with the AM4 platform for the next couple of years, or have I diminished the RTX 5080's potential by not upgrading to AM5 from the start? Was it better to stick with the 4070 Super?

You've got a great setup. The 5700X3D and 5080 are a good match. You're not leaving much on the table with 4K gaming, and you'll be set for almost anything you throw at it.
If you're gaming at 4K, your CPU won’t hold you back. Sure, at 1440p you might see a bit of a gap, but overall, I think you made a wise move—especially at that price!
Exactly! I was worried about that—thanks for clarifying!
Grab that 5080 while you can—it's rare to find GPUs at MSRP in Japan. Even if you have a slight bottleneck at 1440p, you’ll be loving 4K gaming! You did great!
Definitely! I'm glad I snagged it. Thanks for the advice!
Honestly, I don’t think you're facing a real bottleneck with that combo. The way I see it, you've made a solid upgrade! Just enjoy the new GPU and focus on those high-quality 4K games!
I appreciate the reassurance! I'm still learning about all this and sometimes I overthink it.
Going from a 4070S to a 5080 is a big jump for 4K. Just be careful at 1440p; you might not see much advantage there without an AM5 upgrade. But if it's a good price, enjoy it!
Right! That makes sense. If I ever upgrade again, I might as well go big with AM5.

Thanks! That's the kind of feedback I needed to hear!
