My 144 Hz Monitor is Stuck at 60 Hz – Help!

I've been using my 144 Hz monitor for a few years without issues, but suddenly I'm encountering some serious problems. Just today, while watching a video on my second monitor, it turned green and my primary monitor froze. I had to force shut down my PC. Later on, I noticed that my primary monitor is now locked at 60 FPS instead of the usual 144 FPS. The highest refresh rate option available is 70 Hz, but selecting it just changes the resolution to the smallest size. Does anyone know why this is happening? For context, I'm on Windows.

You might want to check if your monitor is being detected properly by Windows. Sometimes, it's identified incorrectly, which can affect performance. Ensure that you aren’t running games in windowed mode if you want to use the game’s full refresh rate. Resetting all relevant settings in your GPU's control panel can also help.

Are you sure to check the refresh rate settings in your Windows display options? Sometimes, having multiple monitors connected can lead to limitations based on the cable you’re using. It might be worth checking if an HDMI cable is the culprit or if it’s time to reinstall your GPU drivers to see if that resolves the issue.

Did you notice any lag or issues just after unplugging and replugging the monitor? Sometimes, a simple reconnection can help switch back to max refresh rates. If that helped, keep an eye on it to see if the problem returns.

Make sure your drivers are up to date for both the video card and the monitor. Sometimes, if Windows doesn’t recognize the monitor correctly, it won’t let you select the 144 Hz option. Also, consider whether any gaming modes on your monitor might be limiting the refresh rate, like FreeSync. A quick reset of your monitor settings could do the trick.
