I'm trying to get music off an old Coby MP705-2G MP3 player that my fiancé handed me. I've plugged it into my computer with an old USB cable, and while the MP3 player charges and powers on, my computer doesn't recognize it at all. It doesn't show up in the file explorer, nor do I get any notifications when I plug it in. Any suggestions would be appreciated!

This MP3 player doesn't need any special software drivers to work on older PCs or laptops, especially those running Windows ME, 2000, XP, and Vista, as well as Mac OS X. However, newer versions of Windows beyond Vista might not recognize it at all. You can check out the manual for more info on USB connections if you're curious.

Just remember, the manual was created when Vista was the newest Windows version. So, even if later systems aren’t mentioned, they could still work with basic plug-and-play features. It's usually only devices requiring special drivers that have trouble with newer systems.
