I'm planning to swap out my motherboard, but I can't seem to find my BitLocker recovery key in my Microsoft account. I really need that key to avoid any issues during the switch. Does anyone have tips on how to retrieve it or what to do in this situation?

If you haven’t turned on BitLocker, then you won't have a recovery key. However, if you have enabled it, you can manage it through your PC settings. Just search for 'Manage BitLocker' in the Start menu, select your drives, and you should see options to back up or turn off BitLocker.

If BitLocker is enabled and you need access to the key, it should ideally be backed up to a text file or saved in your Microsoft account. Double-check those places. Just ensure everything is sorted out before you make any changes!

Honestly, if you think you might have issues after changing the motherboard, it’s best to decrypt BitLocker first. That way, you won't run into problems accessing your data later.

Have you tried exporting a backup of your BitLocker key? If you didn’t do that, you might have some trouble. Also, if it's asking for the BitLocker key after a BIOS change, try reverting those changes and see if it lets you access your drive. Otherwise, you might have to wipe the partition and reinstall Windows.

I haven't touched anything yet! Just want to get the key first because I hear it prompts for it when changing hardware.
