I'm on the hunt for a monitor that can handle both gaming and professional tasks, like viewing digital images all day. I have an RTX 5080 graphics card and a new Ryzen 7 processor. My budget is around $500, but I'm open to spending a bit more or less depending on what's available. I'm torn between 4K vs. lower resolutions and OLED vs. IPS displays. Would going for a 4K OLED be overkill for my setup? Can I still get great results with a non-OLED or non-4K monitor? Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated!

You might want to look into a 27" MSI QD OLED with 240Hz or even 280Hz; they often go on sale and could be priced between $400 and $450 recently. I wouldn’t recommend 4K for gaming unless you want to go with an IPS screen. It's pretty taxing and might not be ideal for fast-paced games, even though I have a 4K OLED TV for other uses. That said, you'd need serious power to run most games at 4K smoothly.
If you're staring at the screen for long hours, go for a 4K OLED. It'll be easier on your eyes. I saw the AOC AGON PRO is around £470, and prices on OLEDs are dropping fast, which is great news!
Interesting that you say that—two other people suggested skipping 4K. I’m a bit confused!
I think a 1440p OLED would be the best fit right now. 4K is super pricey, and for a gaming monitor, you might not hit the highest FPS without using DLSS or other upscaling options. OLED will give you great colors for both gaming and work, and you won’t lose out on performance by going 1440p!
So is using DLSS or frame generation a bad thing? I guess if the 5080 can handle it, what's the downside? I’m curious!

So would it really take a lot of power to use a 4K monitor for gaming? I’m finding it hard to decide!
