I'm from Russia and I need to bypass certain restrictions with a program called Zapret. I've been feeling uneasy about using it lately and I want to know if there are any safer alternatives I can use on Arch Linux. If anyone is aware of another effective solution, please share!

Rent a VPS and set it up like a VLESS proxy. Make sure to pick a company that doesn’t have Russian ties and accepts crypto payments. Look for a low-cost option; you don’t need a super powerful server—just focus on good internet speed! Also, be sure to check their terms to ensure proxy use isn’t prohibited.

The Zapret repository is quite popular, and being open-source does lend it some trustworthiness compared to closed-source options. But I totally get your paranoia—some open-source projects have been taken over by malicious actors. You might want to consider using a VPN that offers obfuscation. ProtonVPN or Mullvad could be good picks. Plus, they allow payments in crypto for extra privacy!

But it's not easy! Many VPNs, like Mullvad and ProtonVPN, are blocked in Russia now. The best move right now might just be renting a VPS and setting up your own proxy.
