Experiencing Black Screen Crashes in Unreal Engine 5 Games – Help Needed!

I'm encountering a frustrating issue while playing games developed with Unreal Engine 5, specifically ARK: Survival Ascended and Marvel Rivals. The problems manifest as follows: suddenly, my screen goes black, the GPU fans spike to 100%, the audio continues playing (I can still communicate on Discord), and my monitor displays a 'No Signal' message. The system remains powered on, but the only solution is to perform a hard reboot. Notably, this issue does not occur with older or less demanding games.

Here are my system specs for context:
- CPU: Ryzen 7 5800X
- GPU: AMD Radeon RX6800
- RAM: 32 GB DDR4
- PSU: EVGA SuperNOVA 850 G3
- Storage: 1TB NVMe SSD (C:) and 1TB HDD (where the games were initially installed).

I've tried several troubleshooting steps already: I've noticed both games are built on Unreal Engine 5, and I'm in the process of moving them from an HDD to the NVMe SSD. A significant discovery was that my GPU was powered by a single daisy-chained PCIe cable, and I'm currently transitioning to using two separate PCIe cables. Despite normal temperatures before the crashes and no overclocking on my CPU or GPU, the crashes have persisted. I suspect this might be related to a power delivery issue or GPU driver problem rather than a full system fault.

I'm seeking advice on whether this sounds like a transient spike issue, if using daisy-chained PCIe cables could potentially cause these crashes, if Unreal Engine 5 games are particularly sensitive, and any additional checks I should perform after re-cabling and moving to NVMe.

It sounds like your issue could be linked to the HDD initially causing problems. I had a friend who faced crashes with Marvel Rivals that disappeared after switching to an SSD. My previous GPU also black-screened because I was using non-OEM cables, so the cables could be a contributing factor as well. I recommend sticking to separate PCIe cables for better power delivery.

Have you tried disabling XMP or Expo settings in your BIOS? Sometimes, it can cause stability issues with RAM that lead to crashes. Also, running a simple PSU tester might help diagnose power supply problems.

I dealt with similar black screen crashes using a 6800XT, and it turned out to be a Windows-related issue with the fTPM. I had to disable a scheduled task that was causing these problems. You can check this by going to Task Scheduler and navigating through Microsoft -> Windows -> CertificateServicesClient and looking for the AikCertEnrollTask. It might help!
