How Can I Access My BitLocker-Encrypted Drive on Ubuntu?

Hey everyone! I recently switched to Linux and installed Ubuntu a couple of weeks ago. I'm really enjoying it, but I've hit a significant snag: my D: Drive from my previous Windows setup is locked with BitLocker. I haven't figured out how to unlock it on Ubuntu. Does anyone know how I can mount and access a BitLocker-encrypted drive in Linux?

Also, as a new user, I'd really appreciate any tips on:

1. Learning Linux: What are the best resources or practices for beginners?
2. Brave Browser: I've noticed a lot of Linux users using Brave. Is it a good choice in terms of safety and privacy?
3. Must-Have Software: What apps or tools should I get as a newcomer?

Thanks a ton for your advice!

You can use dislocker to unlock your BitLocker drive, but make sure you have your recovery key handy. I've done this at work and it worked well! Just connect your BitLocker drive with a USB adapter and if you have the key, you can access your files easily. If you don't have the key, it might be tough to get into that drive without reverting back to Windows.

Unfortunately, I don't have my recovery key either.

Brave is a pretty solid choice! It’s open source, which means you can trust its transparency. However, I've been sticking to Firefox myself due to some concerns about Brave's history. For alternatives, you might want to check out Librewolf or the Mullvad browser—they're both solid options. Most Linux distros come with basic tools like a file manager and text editor that are useful to start with!

Yeah, I’ve got Firefox already but wanted to see what Brave was about. Chrome feels so heavy!

Unfortunately, the only way to access your BitLocker drive is to reinstall Windows, as there isn’t any BitLocker software for Linux. You might want to prepare for that option.

Thanks, I guess there is no other way now.

Actually, dislocker is an option for some users. Check this out: [https://rtech.support/disks/encryption/dislocker/](https://rtech.support/disks/encryption/dislocker/) - it’s recent and might be worth trying out!

If you're locked out of your drive and don’t have the recovery key, you're pretty limited. You can try contacting Microsoft Support to retrieve the key, or the easiest option really is to use a Windows machine to unlock it. While it's a hassle, that's generally your best bet if dislocker doesn't work out.
