I have a pretty old PC with an Intel i3 2nd generation processor, an NVIDIA 410M GPU, and only 2GB of RAM. I've been looking into Xubuntu, which I really like, but I'm torn between sticking with Ubuntu 20.04 or upgrading to 24.04 since I have a subscription to Ubuntu Pro. I also have a SATA SSD that I plan to use. Given my hardware specs, what would be the better choice for a smooth experience?

You might want to think about sticking with Ubuntu 20.04. The NVIDIA drivers might cause issues on the newer kernels, so it could be more stable for you. What exactly are you expecting to do with it, though? Of course, you could always look at getting a Raspberry Pi or a Chromebook as a more modern upgrade, but I get that it’s tough when you're on a budget!
Check out lightweight options like MX Linux or Linux Mint Debian Edition (LMDE). They should run smoother on your hardware compared to Ubuntu.
I'd recommend Lubuntu 24.04 too. But honestly, if you could manage to add a couple more gigs of RAM, it would really enhance your experience!
Honestly, with the i3 and just 2GB of RAM, you might struggle with either version. It might not run well at all. Consider upgrading your RAM if possible! That would make a noticeable difference.
You might find antiX a good fit with your specs. But if you do manage to upgrade the RAM, Lubuntu would become a solid option for you!

I totally get that! My parents don’t let me spend money either. They say my current setup is still usable, but it's frustrating!
