Looking for Help with Dual Booting Linux Mint or Kubuntu

I'm looking for some solid advice on installing either Linux Mint or Kubuntu as a dual boot on my PC. I really want suggestions for good resources like videos or articles, and it would be great to hear from folks who've actually done it. I'm trying to understand the different methods, like setting up partitions on the same drive or using a separate drive for the installation. It's been a bit overwhelming with all the conflicting information out there. Plus, I find that some more experienced Linux users can be a bit off-putting with their jargon, so I'm hoping for straightforward advice from those who have real-world experience. I'm just trying to find a way to transition away from Windows smoothly. Thanks in advance for any help!

Have you considered using a virtual machine instead of dual booting? It can save you some hassle, especially with managing boot configurations. For instance, you could run Windows as your main OS and then use VirtualBox or VMware to run Linux inside it. This setup keeps things simple, but you’ll have to deal with some trade-offs in terms of performance and hardware interaction.

To ease your worries, I suggest installing Linux on an external hard drive. Before you do this, disconnect your internal Windows drive. You can also practice booting with a LIVE Linux distribution, like LIVE KNOPPIX, from a USB stick. This approach won’t harm your existing Windows setup, and there are loads of YouTube videos and guides to help you out!

I hear you on the conflicting advice! I’m in a similar boat, trying to switch fully to Linux while still needing Windows available for work reasons. The virtual machine idea is intriguing but daunting at the same time. Also, I’ve seen discussions about programs that can simplify the boot menu for dual boots - it’s definitely something to look into! Just keep digging, and hopefully, the community will become more user-friendly over time!
