I'm building my first PC and want to make sure everything is in order before making any purchases. I'm not too concerned about the price unless it's excessively high. Ideally, I'm looking for a performance-oriented setup, about 75% of the way towards that. Here's what I've got so far:
- CPU: Ryzen 9 9950X3D
- CPU Cooler: AI V3 360MM ARGB AIO
- Motherboard: MSI PRO B850-VC WIFI7
- GPU: GeForce RTX 5090 32G GAMING TRIO OC
- SSD: SAMSUNG 990 PRO 2TB
- RAM: G.SKILL TRIDENT Z5 64GB 6000MT/S ARGB CL30
- PSU: Corsair RM1200x SHIFT
- Case: Corsair Frame 4000D
Is this build a solid high-end gaming PC, or are there areas where I can improve?

I basically built something similar but with 32GB of RAM, and I think you're going to be really happy with this setup. I went for air cooling and have had no issues; I've maxed out settings in games like BF6 and only hit 72-75°C at peak, idling around 34-37°C. Hope this info helps!
You've got an amazing build here! If you're trying to stay around that performance-to-price ratio, you might want to consider a few tweaks. For instance, swapping out the Ryzen 9 9950X3D for a 9800X3D could save you some cash without sacrificing too much performance. Also, if you're open to it, an air cooler can be more cost-effective than that AIO cooler you chose. And about the 5090 GPU, they can vary significantly in price but often don't differ much in performance. You might find a better deal there! Finally, unless you're running demanding applications, 32GB of RAM should suffice for most games, though I understand if you're keeping 64GB for running multiple VMs.
I insist on water cooling, but the one I picked is one of the cheaper ones so I'm good with that. I get that the 5090 cards have minimal performance differences, but I want mine to be quiet. Is the one I picked suitable for that?

Alright noted, I’ll swap the CPU. Keeping the RAM though since I plan to use multiple VMs. Thanks a lot!
