Why is My 9950X3D Hitting 80°C While Playing FC26?

I've recently transitioned from console gaming to PC and built a setup featuring a 9950X3D and a 5070 Ti, playing at 4K. I started playing FC26 this weekend, focusing on manager mode, and I noticed that my CPU temperature spikes up to 80°C during gameplay, even though my frame rates are stable at 240 and I have most graphics settings on medium or low. My GPU, which is undervolted and runs at 3150MHz with 975mV, stays below 65°C. I usually see my CPU temps under 70°C when playing other demanding games. I've also undervolted my 9950X3D with -25 on the cache CCD and -20 on the frequency CCD. I'm using a 240mm AIO cooler in a compact case, so I'm puzzled as to why my CPU is reaching such high temps while playing FIFA of all games.

240mm AIOs might not be enough for high load scenarios, especially in compact cases. You mentioned your max package power is 129W; that can contribute to higher temps. Just keep tabs on it and ensure it’s cooling effectively.

You also want to check the CPU package power. It can vary with usage—sometimes games can push your CPU even at 4K resolution. Have you noticed what the CPU package power is during those spikes?

First off, what cooler are you using and is there good airflow in your case? Remember, the thermal limit for your CPU is 95°C, so while 80°C is high, it’s not critical. However, FIFA can be CPU-heavy, especially at lower graphics settings, which could be causing those spikes.

Everything sounds okay to me; high temps in certain games are not unusual. Make sure everything is properly cooled, and you should be fine!

Honestly, 80°C is pretty normal under load for your CPU. It should still perform fine at that temp without throttling.
