I'm considering using AppleCare for an Express Replacement for my iPhone 16 Pro since the back glass is broken. I'm curious about the condition of the replacement device. Will it be truly like new, or should I expect it to have some wear, like a battery that has already seen 300+ cycles?

If you're specifically looking at the Express Replacement, be aware that Apple typically suggests fixing a broken back glass instead of a full replacement; the repair is usually around $29. But if you opt for the Express Replacement, rest assured that it will be refurbished but as reliable as new, with a fresh battery. Just remember that this replacement won't include any accessories.

Just to clarify, while they do mix in 're-manufactured' phones, they very much meet the standards of new devices. You shouldn't have to worry about getting something that’s damaged.

From what I've experienced, the replacement iPhones are essentially brand new in appearance. The visible parts, including the screen and back glass, are replaced with new components, so they'll look pristine. Plus, the battery will have zero cycles on it, meaning it's fresh and ready to go. Some folks even think that refurbished units are often built with better quality since they go through a thorough re-manufacturing process.

Honestly, even refurbished through AppleCare feels like getting a brand new device. When I had my iPhone 11 replaced, I couldn't tell the difference; it looked flawless and the battery was brand new too.
