Hey everyone! I recently ordered a Framework 13 Laptop with a 1TB SSD that comes pre-installed with Windows, but I plan to run Fedora instead. My plan is to boot it up and set up Windows for a couple of days to get everything sorted. After that, I want to swap out the 1TB SSD for another one (between 1TB and 4TB) that I'll use for a clean installation of Fedora, which will be my primary drive.
I'm thinking of occasionally swapping the Windows SSD back in every few months, just to run updates and keep it in good shape. I'm concerned if this constant swapping could lead to any problems, particularly with Windows features like BitLocker. Also, I wonder if any BIOS updates while I'm using Linux might impact the Windows SSD when I swap it back. Is there any significant risk? What should I be aware of if I keep my Windows SSD and use it occasionally?

You should be fine with that setup! I usually back up the drive on a new PC just in case, then wipe it clean. Your method seems a bit of a waste for a nice SSD, but if you really need to use Windows occasionally, it’s a good option.

Yeah, I hear you. Maybe you could look into running a Windows VM in Linux. That way, you might not even need to mess with swapping SSDs.
