How to Measure the Impact of CPU Upgrades for Gaming?

I recently upgraded my power supply from 550W to 850W and my graphics card from a GTX 1080 to a 9070XT. I'm curious about the impact of my current CPU, which is a Ryzen 5 1600, on gaming performance. I want to know if there are any tools or methods for assessing how much of a difference upgrading my CPU might make, especially since I'm primarily gaming and looking to maintain 60+ FPS. I'm currently playing titles like Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 and Baldur's Gate 3, and I'd also like to try Returnal, all at 1440p. Would it be worth upgrading my CPU for better performance?

You might want to watch some CPU/GPU benchmark videos on YouTube. They show how different combinations perform in games, which can help you understand the gains from upgrading your CPU.

Upgrading to even a Ryzen 5 3600 could net you a significant FPS increase, often over 30%. It’s worth checking if your motherboard supports it after a BIOS update. The 5600X might be your best bet to eliminate limitations.

First off, check if your GPU is running at 100% utilization when you're gaming. If it is, upgrading your CPU might not yield significant improvements. But if it isn't, an upgrade could help boost your FPS quite a bit!

Just a note: having a bottleneck can sometimes indicate that you're making the most of your system's capabilities. Ideally, you want to make gradual upgrades, but it's also wise to consider how the CPU and GPU work together. Monitoring tools like Steam or MSI Afterburner can give you a clear picture of your performance.

Your current setup is definitely bottlenecked by the Ryzen 5 1600, especially with the 9070XT. The goal is to get your GPU usage as high as possible—around 100% is ideal. I'd recommend looking at CPUs like the 5700X for a significant upgrade.

Thanks for the insight! If I get decent FPS now, is it safe to stay with the 1600 for a bit, or will the bottleneck really hinder my gaming experience?
