Hey everyone, I'm an experienced coder, but I've been having trouble finishing my projects. I tend to jump to new ones before completing the old ones. Does anyone have strategies or tips on how to deal with this?

Consider using a platform that charges you if you don't finish your projects. I've been using Beeminder, and it really incentivizes me to stick with my goals!

Does that actually help you stay on track?

You're definitely not alone in this! I've found that a lot of us get stuck in the same cycle of starting new projects without finishing the old ones. Just knowing that others experience this too can be a bit comforting, right?

Yep, I've abandoned quite a few projects myself. It's a tough cycle to break!

I totally get this! I jump from knitting to coding to Minecraft all the time. I think it's just our brains craving that dopamine hit from starting new things. Or maybe I'm just not structured enough, haha!

I relate! I love starting something new, but often lose enjoyment as it grows. It's not always, but it happens a lot.

I run Docmost on a Docker container so I can access it from anywhere. When I get a new idea, I jot it down without quitting my current project. I set a target for where I want to get to with the current project, then give myself a little time to explore the new idea. More often than not, I find myself returning to the first project pretty quickly, like in just a few hours!

One method that worked for me is teaming up on projects. It's way easier to keep motivated when you know someone else is counting on you to pull your weight. I went through a huge pile of unfinished projects before I realized this, but now collaborative work keeps me focused!
