Hey everyone! I'm diving into the world of Linux and planning to install Arch with Hyprland on my mid-2012 MacBook Pro. I know that Arch can be a challenge for beginners, but I'm eager to learn and figure everything out. I'm specifically wondering if I'll be able to use all the hardware features like the CD/DVD player, backlit keyboard, function keys, trackpad gestures, and fan curve customization after the installation. Any tips on what packages I might need or if these features will integrate smoothly? Thanks in advance for any help!

You might want to check out the r/linux_on_mac subreddit for experiences from others who have done similar conversions. It's a good resource!
So, your MacBook Pro has the HD4000 graphics which should support all your mentioned features. Just a heads-up, you'll need Broadcom's closed-source drivers for the WiFi. As for the gestures, it should work with Wayland, but I’m unsure how it integrates with Hyprland specifically. If you want a smoother start, consider trying something like Ubuntu or Fedora with GNOME first to get the hang of things before switching to Arch.
Thanks for the heads up! I'll look into it.
