Why did my second monitor go black after I turned it on?

I have two monitors: an ultra-wide connected via HDMI and a 27-inch attached to a monitor arm using a DisplayPort cable. After turning on my 27-inch monitor, the ultra-wide went black, and all of my apps and windows shifted to the 27-inch display. I initially thought it was a cable issue, so I unplugged both the HDMI and DisplayPort cables and ensured they were securely connected. I even tried swapping them out with new cables, but that didn't fix the problem. I heard that reseating the RAM helped some people, so I tried that as well, but the issue persists. The ultra-wide monitor is powered on but shows no connection despite being plugged into the PC. I can only get it to work using the DisplayPort cable, but my GPU has only one DisplayPort and one HDMI port. Can anyone help me troubleshoot this?

It sounds like a connection issue, especially since moving the monitor might have deactivated it. Make sure to thoroughly check the connection on your 27-inch monitor. Sometimes a small wiggle can reveal a loose cable that may not look loose at first.

I've also had issues like this; it really came down to ensuring every connection was tight. If everything looks good, it might be worth trying a different port on your GPU if available, or a different HDMI cable.
