I'm looking to add wireless capability to my PC, but I'm unsure whether I can just buy antennas for Wi-Fi or if I need to purchase both a PCIe card and antennas together. Can someone clarify how this works?

To get Wi-Fi, you'll definitely need the PCIe card since antennas alone won’t do the trick. If you install a PCIe Wi-Fi card but don’t connect the antennas, you’ll barely get any signal. The good news is that when you buy a PCIe card, it usually comes with the antennas you need.
Check your device manager for any Wi-Fi options. If you see a Wi-Fi device listed, you're in good shape! If not, you'll need a PCIe card. Most of these cards come with at least one antenna. Honestly, I find USB adapters don't work as well unless you're really close to your router.
Looks like I'll have to grab a PCIe card then.
Double check your motherboard specs to see if it has onboard Wi-Fi. If it does, there should be antenna connections on the back I/O panel. If not, go for a PCIe or USB Wi-Fi adapter, and those usually come with everything you need.
I tried Googling, but didn’t find a clear answer, so I came here for help from experienced builders.
If your motherboard doesn't have built-in Wi-Fi (you'd see connectors on the back for antennas if it did), then you're gonna need an adapter. I went with a PCIe Wi-Fi card a while back, which came with antennas. I've heard that USB Wi-Fi adapters have improved, but I found them to be less reliable back in the day.

Thanks for clarifying that!
