What PSU wattage do I need for my new build with an Ultra 265K and RTX 3090?

I'm upgrading my main PC to an Ultra 265K processor, and I'm considering a PSU upgrade along with it since my current one is almost 10 years old and it's 1000W. I checked a PC parts picker site, and it suggested I would need about 849W for my build. Should I stick with another 1000W PSU, or would it be better to go for a 1200W model to allow for future upgrades?

If you're looking to future-proof, check out the 1300W Phantom Gaming PSU from Asrock. It's Cybenetics platinum rated with silent fans and temperature sensors to protect your components. It’s a great option for potentially larger GPUs down the line.

I recently saw a Montech Century 1050W PSU for about $110—pretty solid deal if you're on a budget! Plus, 1050W gives you a bit of headroom.

If you plan to stick with GPUs up to a 5080, a 1000W should do the trick. But if you're thinking about possibly upgrading to something beefier like a 5090 in the future, then I’d recommend going for a 1200W just to be safe. Minimum 1000W is really a must these days.

I'm currently using a 285K and RTX 5080 setup with a SeaSonic Vertex GX-1000W, and it’s been running smoothly so far.

For some DIY guidance, here's a simple method: Find the TDP of your processor and GPU, add around 150W for overhead, and size your PSU to be about 125% of that total. If you're eyeing a future GPU upgrade, use its TDP to ensure your PSU can handle it.
