Can’t Reactivate Device Encryption on Windows After Installing Ubuntu

Hey everyone! I just set up a dual boot system with Ubuntu alongside Windows 11. Before installing Ubuntu, I disabled the device encryption in Windows. Now, I'm running into a problem: I can't figure out how to reactivate it.

I've tried troubleshooting on my own, but since I'm here, it means I haven't succeeded. Specifically, I can't access the device encryption feature in the Windows settings anymore (I have Windows Family, so no BitLocker for me). I've checked that my BIOS mode is UEFI, Secure Boot is enabled, and the TPM is ready to be used and is version 2.0. Since I'm pretty new to Linux and not very tech-savvy, I'm unsure what steps to take next. I think having encryption enabled is important, but maybe I'm overthinking it. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance!

It sounds like your main issue is trying to re-enable the encryption in Windows after the dual boot setup. If you're missing the option in settings, it could be due to the way you've installed Ubuntu. Sometimes, dual booting can affect how Windows recognizes its features. I'd recommend checking if there's any Windows updates pending or trying a system file check with the command `sfc /scannow` in the command prompt to see if that helps restore the option.

Thanks for the tip! I'll try the command check and see if that fixes it. I'll let you know how it goes!

Just a heads up, this seems like a Windows-specific issue rather than something caused by Ubuntu. Since you have a Home edition, your choices are limited compared to Pro versions. Have you tried running the Windows troubleshooting tool? Sometimes it can fix issues with missing features.

Good idea! I haven't tried the troubleshooting tool yet. I'll give that a shot and see if it resolves the problem.
