What are some good alternatives to PagerDuty for on-call management?

Our team just hit the 5-user limit on PagerDuty's free tier, and we're considering other options since we don't need to pay $21 per user each month just for basic features like scheduling, escalations, and push alerts. We're a small group of 6 developers, and although the cost might seem reasonable in the grand scheme of things, it's hard to justify for what we need. Interested to hear what other small teams are using—have you tried services like Zenduty or Squadcast? Also, do you actually use SMS or phone calls for alerts, or do push notifications work just fine?

If you're looking for an alternative, give Incident.io a shot. It's been the best tool I've used in this area!

Honestly, I think $100 a month isn't that much for the reliability you get with on-call services. Just consider how much an outage could cost you in lost customers and reputation. It might sound like a lot upfront, but in the long run, it could save you much more!

Totally agree! If your cloud costs are much higher, then $100 shouldn't be a deal-breaker! It's all about prioritizing where to spend.

You might want to check out SIGNL4. They have a free plan for 5 users, and their paid plans are cheaper than what you mentioned. Plus, they support push notifications, which is what you seem to prefer.

Yeah, I agree! For basic alerts, push notifications work great. Getting into SMS can complicate things for small teams.
