Is Upgrading to an AMD Ryzen 5 5600 Worth It for Rust Gaming?

I'm currently using an RTX 2060 with an i5-9400, but I often hit 99% CPU usage while playing Rust. I'm considering upgrading to an AMD Ryzen 5 5600. Would this be a significant improvement in performance, and what differences should I expect?

I just upgraded from an i5-8400 and GTX 1060 to a base Ryzen 5 5600 with a 5060 TI and the difference is huge! If you normally only upgrade when necessary, this is a solid move. You can find loads of benchmarks on YouTube, but honestly, the efficiency and performance are fantastic. I used my existing 3200 DDR4 RAM with a new B550M motherboard, and it all works great!

You should definitely check out some comparison videos of the i5-9400 and the Ryzen 5 5600. The 5600 has 12 threads compared to your i5's 6, which will give you a pretty noticeable performance boost. Plus, if you can use your existing RAM with an AM4 motherboard, the upgrade won’t break the bank. A budget B550 motherboard paired with the 5600X would be a solid choice!

Just a heads up about AM4 – you’ll need a new motherboard for the Ryzen 5 5600. If you’re looking into the used market for DDR4 RAM, aim for something a bit better. It’s definitely worth checking out the performance gains, but don't forget about the motherboard upgrade.

Thanks for the reminder! I’ll make sure to factor that in.

I'd suggest looking at the Ryzen 7 5800X instead if you can swing it. For gaming, the performance difference might not be massive, but it's definitely worth considering the next step up!

Absolutely, if you're sticking with DDR4, the Ryzen 5600 is a great upgrade! It's really efficient with low power and heat.
