Overwhelmed with Upgrade Decisions: Full or Partial?

Hey everyone, I'm feeling a bit overwhelmed with my current PC situation and could really use some advice. My setup includes a RTX 2080, Ryzen 5 3600, and 32 GB of DDR4 RAM, all running on a 1440p 144Hz monitor. I've been wanting to upgrade for a while now and I'm torn between doing a full upgrade or just a partial one. I'm considering getting a 5070ti but I'm worried that my CPU might bottleneck and I won't see the performance boost I hope for. DDR5 RAM prices are pretty high right now, so I'm not sure if it makes sense to upgrade my GPU now and wait on the rest, or if I should sell my current build and invest in a new CPU, like a 9600X or maybe stick with 32GB DDR4 and just buy the 5070ti. I'm getting married soon so my budget is $1200-$1500, which could increase if I sell my existing PC. Any thoughts or suggestions would be hugely appreciated! Just to add, I mainly game and I'm okay with medium-high settings, focusing on FPS, especially in multiplayer shooters like Battlefield 6.

I would be cautious about CPU bottlenecks. The 3600 probably won't hold you back much at 1440p since the GPU handles most of the load. Monitor your CPU and GPU usage in-game. If you're still hitting performance walls, consider getting the 5070ti along with a Ryzen 7 5800XT if you can fit that into your budget.

Look, you can keep your motherboard and RAM by upgrading to something like the 5700X3D or 5800X3D. Just be wary of pricing as those can get steep. But hey, if you’re only gaming at 1440p, the RTX 5070ti should serve you just fine even if the CPU might hold it back a little.

True, but have you seen how prices fluctuate? Sometimes those CPUs can cost as much as getting new DDR5 RAM at the moment!

Honestly, if you're planning to use the PC for a few years, I’d suggest just going for the CPU upgrade and the 5070ti. A Ryzen 5 7500X3D could keep you set for a bit longer without a lot of hassle.

You might want to skip the 5700X3D or 5800X3D since they're discontinued and pricey. A 5600 or 5700 would give you a nice CPU boost without breaking the bank. Stick with your 32GB of RAM for sure, since you’ll probably find it useful in the games you play. Honestly, with your existing setup and a new GPU like the 5070ti, you should see solid performance at 1440p. I have a similar build and it's been great for gaming!

That’s a great point! I didn't realize the AM4 CPUs were still viable, I thought they were all gone. Have you noticed significant performance using your setup? Is the 5800X a bottleneck or has it held up well?

You're in a good spot already with 32GB of DDR4 RAM, so no need to downgrade that! If your motherboard can handle it, upgrading to a 5700X or even a 5800X would be wise, especially if you're pairing it with a new GPU like the 5070ti or even a 9070xt! Just double-check your PSU specs to ensure it can support the new components. You’re definitely heading in the right direction!

Yeah, that 5800XT is going for around $220 on Amazon now, which is pretty tempting for a solid upgrade!
