Looking for Temporary Internet Options in My Apartment

I'm a graduate student living off-campus, and my apartment complex upgraded the internet in September, but it has been barely functional ever since. We experience frequent outages, sometimes lasting over a day, and the connection is incredibly slow even when it works. The management has been claiming they're switching providers for months now, but there hasn't been any improvement. With bad winter storms approaching, I won't be able to go to campus for internet access. Is there any way I can get temporary WiFi or some backup internet solution? My apartment has poor service, and my phone's hotspot is slower than the current WiFi, so it's not a practical option.

Look into what phone service works best in your area and consider getting a plan with enough hotspot data. If you're on a family plan, that might complicate things, but exploring cellular options is your best bet.

Have you checked if there's a nearby public library? They often provide free WiFi, which could be a good temporary solution while you wait for your internet issues to be resolved.

A mobile hotspot from your phone could work, but double-check that your phone plan allows it. If not, there’s an app on the Android store that can help you connect your phone via Bluetooth tethering to your laptop—it's a bit of a hassle to set up, but it typically goes undetected by providers.

You can use your phone's hotspot or invest in a dedicated hotspot device. I recommend the Linksys MX4200 Mesh Wifi6, which amplifies the signal and covers larger areas. You can add nodes to eliminate dead spots, making it a solid option if you're struggling with connectivity in your apartment.

If your wired options are unreliable and mobile internet isn't cutting it, your choices are limited. Starlink could be a viable alternative if you have a clear view of the sky, but keep in mind it involves extra costs.
