Is it better to upgrade my CPU and RAM instead of downgrading my GPU for better FPS in Fortnite and COD?

I'm currently facing issues with my gaming performance. I have an Alienware R12 with an RTX 3080 and an i7 11700F CPU, but I'm still getting unsatisfactory frames per second in both Fortnite and Call of Duty, even on low settings. I've heard that the CPU might be more critical for achieving maximum FPS at lower settings. I'm considering whether it makes sense to downgrade to a 3070 or 4060 in order to save money for a better CPU and more RAM. I'd really appreciate any insights on whether the GPU's performance is still a key factor at low settings or if I should focus on upgrading my CPU instead.

You mentioned 'really bad' FPS. Can you clarify what you consider bad? If you're peaking at 130 FPS but dropping to 80 with stuttering, that’s still decent. But stuttering can be more about your CPU or RAM. I’d recommend looking into optimizing or upgrading those components before downgrading your GPU.

Yeah, I max out at 130 in public matches but dip down to 80 with stutters, which can be really annoying.

Honestly, if you've already got an RTX 3080, it might not be wise to downgrade unless you're planning on a complete overhaul. Your FPS problems could likely be resolved by upgrading your CPU. Plus, the cooling in the R12 can be an issue. Focus on that first!

Good point! I'm actually thinking of getting a whole new setup, as the cooling is pretty subpar in these R12 models.
