I'm considering a PC build but won't actually get to it for a few years. I want it to last me over 8 years once it's built. Just a heads up, I mistakenly listed 64 GB of RAM when I actually want 32 GB. Here's my current build plan:

- **CPU**: AMD Ryzen 5 9600X
- **CPU Cooler**: Thermalright Aqua Elite V3
- **Motherboard**: Asus TUF GAMING B850-PLUS WIFI
- **RAM**: Kingston FURY beast 32 GB (2x16) DDR5-6000 CL30
- **Storage**: Samsung 990 Pro (2 TB)
- **Video Card**: Asus PRIME OC Radeon RX 9070 XT
- **Case**: Montech XR
- **Power Supply**: MSI MAG A850GL PCIE5 (850W)
- **Monitor**: MSI MAG 275QF

What do you think?

If you're planning to build in a few years, it's smart to keep an eye on the market. Hardware prices fluctuate a lot, and new options always come out. You might want to reassess your needs closer to the actual build date.

True, I’m trying to plan with current prices in mind, but I’ll definitely check out newer CPUs when the time comes.

Planning out a PC build years in advance might not be the best idea. So much can change in the tech world! You could find yourself with outdated components when you’re finally ready to buy.

I get that. I just want to save up and have a general idea of what I want.

Using 64 GB of RAM with a Ryzen 5 9600X is kind of overkill right now. You could get a Ryzen 7 7800X3D with a Nvidia 5080 graphics card for a similar price and have a much better overall system if you drop the RAM to 32 GB.

He’s not building it right now, so it’s all good.

Yeah, I just realized I wanted 32 GB, not 64. Oops!

Consider dropping that RAM amount and swapping the 9600X for a 7800X3D if you're looking for better performance. And if budget allows, getting a 5080 instead of the 9070 XT could really help in the long run.

Yep, that was my mistake! I meant 32 GB. Thanks for the tip!

For a build meant to last 8 years, you might want to think about getting a more powerful CPU. After all, tech will advance, and you'll want to ensure your system can keep up.

Any recommendations on which CPU would be better for longevity?
