Is Learning Lua a Mistake for Beginners?

I'm just starting out in programming and chose to learn Lua because I'm interested in developing games on Roblox. However, I'm starting to wonder if I made the right choice compared to other languages like Python or JavaScript, especially since I want to get into web development eventually. Should I stick with Lua, or would it be better to switch to something else right now?

You’re doing great! The main thing is to keep practicing. Lua is easy to pick up and you'll see quick results, which is a huge confidence booster. Once you grasp programming basics, transitioning to JavaScript or Python will be much easier.

It really depends on your goals. If you're keen on learning programming broadly, Lua is fine because it provides a fun way to learn concepts that will transfer over to other languages. Once you're comfortable, you can pick a more general-purpose language later like Python or JavaScript.

Starting with Lua isn't a mistake at all! It's a great way to dive into programming because it teaches you core concepts. If your goal is Roblox development, Lua is perfect. But if you want to get into web dev later, learning JavaScript or TypeScript will definitely help. Just remember that whatever language you pick, focus on building and experimenting!

Don't stress too much about your language choice in the beginning! What matters most is understanding coding logic and problem-solving. Whether it's Lua for games or Python for web development, the skills you develop will carry over.
