I'm gearing up for a new build in about three months, and I'm thinking of snagging some DDR5 memory and an M.2 drive now before prices climb even higher. Assuming I go with well-known brands, should I be concerned about motherboard compatibility when I actually select one later? It's been over ten years since my last build, and I remember dealing with those compatibility lists. Any insights would be super helpful!

Current generation Intel and AMD setups with DDR5 are going to be sold for years, not just a few months. You're in a safe spot.
Honestly, not much is likely to change in just three months. You should be good to go!
I really don't think a lot will change in the next three months. NVMe drives are generally backwards compatible, so a Gen 3 works in a Gen 4 slot without issues. As for DDR5 RAM, I doubt things will shift until DDR6 comes around, and that's a ways off.
Prices are predicted to stay high through 2026 or even longer, especially with AI demands pushing up the need for components. It's a tricky situation, as current shortages are tied to rapid AI infrastructure growth and panic buying. If you want to build, do it now or brace for waiting a couple of years until things stabilize.
