Hey folks! My brother recently got an old PC from a friend, and the only thing he needs to buy is a monitor and a graphics card. I found an RTX 5050 for about 340 CAD and I'm curious if it will work well with his setup, which includes an i5 7600k CPU and a 24-inch 1080p monitor. He also has a 650W power supply. Any thoughts?

Your brother might face some stuttering issues with AAA games, but for many modern titles, he should be fine at lower settings. The RTX 5050 might be overkill since it’ll be held back by the older CPU. If he can find a second-hand RTX 3070, that might be a better option for him. He could also think about upgrading to an i7 7700 later on for better support, but know that Kaby Lake technology is pretty dated.

Do you think it could handle AAA games at low to medium settings around 60fps?

Yes, you should be okay with that setup for the most part! Just keep in mind that the i5 7600k has some limitations, especially in more demanding modern games where it might struggle. A newer CPU like the i5-14400 paired with a B760 motherboard would be a good upgrade if your brother ever looks to boost performance down the line.
