What’s the Best Way to Handle User Profiles on a Windows Domain?

I'm trying to figure out how to create roaming profiles for users in my domain, specifically using Windows Server 2025 as the domain controller. I feel a bit lost because most of the resources I've found online are old and not very helpful. What are the best practices for setting up roaming profiles these days? Also, I've got local profiles on existing machines with a lot of user data. How can I ensure that all this data gets transferred to the new roaming profiles once I set them up?

Roaming profiles can really be a pain! I'd suggest considering folder redirection instead if you want to manage user data. It's more efficient and won't complicate things like some older features might.

For real, roaming profiles are pretty much obsolete in most workplaces now. It's just not 2003 anymore. Utilize cloud services for syncing your users' data. It's what most modern offices are doing.

Honestly, you should think twice before diving into roaming profiles. They were pretty much a hassle even back in the day, and in current environments, they just don't work well with modern applications like OneDrive. Trust me, cloud solutions are the way to go nowadays.

You might want to look at OneDrive Known Folder Redirection instead. It's easier to set up and aligns better with current tech standards. Plus, it helps manage user data much more effectively without the slow performance that roaming profiles tend to have.
